Tokamachi City Library (十日町市情報館)


All Tokamachi City residents and those working in Tokamachi City are able to register to use the Tokamachi City Library resource loan system, which is free of charge. Books borrowed from the central library may be returned at any of the library’s branch locations, and visa-versa. The Tokamachi City Library also has computers and printers available for use, as well as a café space and desks for reading and study. Please call for further details.

Tokamachi City General Gymnasium (十日町市総合体育館)


Among the facilities housed at the Tokamachi City General Gymnasium are an indoor sports arena with 560 seats; a 165m running track, a rock-climbing wall, an indoor futsal pitch; a training room with weight lifting equipment and changing and shower facilities. Use of the training room requires an induction. Please inquire at the Gymnasium for more information.

Tokamachi City Museum (十日町市博物館)

The Tokamachi City Museum is the home of Japan’s oldest National Treasure, the Flame-style Pottery. It also houses interactive exhibitions on the region's history and culture of textile production, Snow Country culture and local wildlife. There is both English language information available at the museum and on the website. The museum was fully renovated in June 2020.

Museum on Echigo-Tsumari (越後妻有里山現代美術館 MonET)

KINARE is the entry point to the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale, a huge outdoor contemporary art festival held in Tokamachi City and Tsunan Town once every three years. The facility houses periodical art exhibitions and events, a café and restaurant and an onsen facility. Cross 10, the area’s largest souvenir shop is conveniently located next door.

Echigo Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science KYORORO

Also known by the name “Forest School”, Kyororo houses exhibitions related to the local environment and wildlife. It is situated next to the “Forest of Beauties”, a 90-year old grove beech forest that attracts photographers and tourists from all over Japan. Kyororo has a 34 meter tall viewing tower that provides a view of the surrounding mountain scenery.

Echigo Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science KYORORO (Japanese)
Echigo Tsumari Auditorium Danjuro (越後妻有文化ホール)

The Echigo Tsumari Auditorium, also known by the name “Danjuro”, houses a large concert hall with 708 seats, a performance space with a terraced viewing area, rehearsal and studio rooms, a modern kitchen space, and other multipurpose spaces including meeting rooms and a tatami room. The facility is operated by the Tokamachi Central Community Center, which has its offices inside the building (Please inquire here regarding ticket sales and facility usage).
